Sir Nikolaus Pevsner described St Michael and All Angels as 'the premier parish church in Herefordshire' - and thousands of visitors each year would agree. St Michael's has a unique combination of setting, size, architecture and features, and can be visited at all times of year.
Here are a few comments from our Visitors Book:
PP, Dorset: "One of the most beautiful churches I have seen."
GA, Romania: "A piece of soul peace everyone desires."
JB, Royal Wootton Bassett: "A joy to see such a lively and beautifully tended church."
CH, Wisconsin, USA: "Full of love and peace. Thank you."
LR, Doncaster: "It is the presence of God which changes silence into peace. We found it here."
JE, Stroud: " A jewel of a church."
In this section you will find details on how to find St Michael's, opening times, history, a brief visitors guide, some photos to whet your appetite, information about the Friends of St Michael's and also information about the solar panels installed on our roof in early 2011.
Directions to St Michael's
St Michael's is in the centre of Ledbury, which lies between Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester, four miles from the M.50 motorway and with a train station served by trains from Birmingham, Hereford and London.
There is plenty of car parking in Ledbury. For the disabled, it is usually possible to park in the churchyard.
From the town centre, St Michael's is best approached up the narrow cobbled street (Church Lane) that leads up from the Market House in the High Street. Alternatively, one can walk down Cabbage Lane, which runs off Worcester Road by the Police Station.
For those using satnav: the post code to use is HR8 1DL (Church Road)
The Church is open to visitors from about 9:00am each day until about 5:30pm (in Summer) or 4:00pm (in Winter). If you are planning to bring a group or have limited time for your visit, we advise you to phone the Group Office first on 01531 631531 or email us to check that there are no funerals or other events taking place at the time you plan to visit.
